Paintings
I started doing my paintings almost by accident. A close friend asked me to paint some abstract marks for her wedding stationery. She had seen the paintings in Bowden Stores when she came to visit (not knowing they were by me) and was inspired. She liked the painting for the wedding stationery so much that i hand painted 25 metres of table cloths for her wedding reception - this started my love for working with colour in this abstract, bold and playful way. It’s such a contrast to my graphic line orientated work that i usually do, though actually it has recently started to creep in to my line drawings too (specifically Aswarby Rectory).
There is something really nice about somebody commissioning you to do a painting for their house - a space they treasure and look at daily. I often visit the space before starting on these briefs and i work closely with the client to understand the space, the feeling they want to evoke and the colour palette. My paintings are mainly gouache but sometimes include oil pastel and gold leaf.
