New York map + guide

I was approached by a private client who was planning a surprise trip to New York and wanted to present a personalised guide with illustrative map as way of solving the destination of the surprise trip. The client briefed me on his schedule and I then designed and illustrated the guide. I also created a giclee print of the map that the client could keep as a permanent keepsake of the trip. 

With this project the aesthetic was as important as the usability of the map because it was to be displayed as a piece of art long term so though I wanted to include landmarks etc., it needed to instantly be recognisable as New York.
